Welcome

Northam Parish Neighbourhood Area was registered by Northam Town Council in 2017. This was the first step in a long process to create a Neighbourhood Plan for the Parish. This process is and has been very much driven by residents who have worked in partnership with Northam Town Council.

The Northam Neighbourhood Plan will be submitted to Torridge District Council. The District Council undertakes a six-week consultation on the draft Plan. An independent examiner will be appointed to examine the draft Plan to ensure it accords with the ‘basic conditions’ for a Neighbourhood Plan.
The examiner will issue a report stating if he/she is minded to recommend that the draft Plan should proceed to a referendum. Persons entitled to vote in a local election for the area will be entitled to participate. If the majority of votes are in favour of the draft Plan, the District Council will give the Plan legal force, at which point the Plan would form part of the development plan for the area.
